To save costs and to prevent future heart attacks, make your own bird toys that will not only give you a creative satisfaction, but also the capacity to withstand its destruction once it’s in the bird cage.
Items required to make your own bird toys:
- Drill, preferably cordless.
- Hand or table saw
- Super strong glue
- Cotton and Jute strings
- Beads

This toy is long lasting and durable but its lifespan depends on how big and destructive your bird is. This toy suits medium to large sized birds such as the cockatoos and cockatiels. Take a block of pine wood or citrus wood and measure according to the size of your bird(For medium size birds, the size should be around 4 to 5 inches square) Then, take a drill and make a hole with a diameter of 1 inch on all 4 sides and go all the way through. Next, place items that your bird would love to extract and play with in the holes like nuts, or vegetable based paper balls etc. This would help you save a lot of money as buying one of these from the store will cost you 3 times as much as you would spend if you make your own bird toys.

The Wonder Web is an easy to make, highly desirable bird toy that will keep your pet bird busy for hours. They can be made in a jiffy while you’re watching TV or waiting for the laundry ring. This toy suits small and medium size birds but larger birds can also play with them provided you make it bigger. Take six strands of 100% cotton string and four strands of jute string and cut it making sure each strand is around eight inches long. Next, place a lot of beads in some of the strands and tie the knots at both ends of each strand irrespective of whether it has beads or not. Finally join all the strands together and tie a string tightly around the middle of the cluster of the strands and you can show off to the rest of the world that you can make your own bird toys!

Get yourself a clothespin that is preferably made of wood and is absolutely plain. Make sure it has no metal hinge attached to it. With a saw, remove the two top pieces and tie strands of jute or pure cotton at the place where the piece indents. Add beads if you wish and knot the ends.
