Things to Consider Before Getting a Pet Bird

Some people or maybe most people, I should say, think that having a pet bird will cost them much lesser than an animal like a cat or a dog for instance. They are thought to be of lower maintenance value than a fish or even hamsters for that matter. The truth is that this is not true at all! Birds need everything ranging from attention to their diet. These birds can not be decoration pieces and cannot be kept in a cage and made to sit there all day long.
Do Pet Birds Bite?
All birds, including those that are tamed, bite. Birds, especially parrots will bite when they are frightened or even threatened. They may also bite when they are trying to protect you from any sort of harm. There are a lot of things that you can do in order to make sure that you do not get bitten by these birds and so that you discourage the aggression in these birds. Birds fly, sing, dance and yes, they bite. It is as simple as that. There is nothing that can be done about it and you will have to live around this tiny inconvenience!
Are Pet Birds Messy?
This is a question that most people do want to know before they go and buy a pet bird for themselves. Though you think that keeping birds is easier than animals, because you will not need to take them for their walks, you should realize that you have to clean up their mess all the time. Birds do mess up most of the house with their food. Many a times you would have noticed that bird feed somehow or the other, gets spread to various other parts of the house. What can you do about it? Keep your eyes open, and your cleaning brush ready!
Food For Your Pet Birds
Aviculture has gone a long way from what it was earlier. Earlier, people did think that a mix of certain seeds was just about enough for a bird to meet it’s nutritional requirements. We all now know that a mix of all seeds is not too good as they may contain large amounts of fat that is not healthy for your pet bird. It may also not keep your pet birds healthy and strong. It is good if you feed your pet birds with organic fruits and vegetables and whole grain pasta. This is especially good when it comes to parrots in particular.
Are Birds Noisy?
Birds can really be noisy! If you are considering buying a pet bird do buy one only if you are going to think or consider its voice to be the sweetest thing on earth! This is because birds scream and screech at times and you need to realize that their sounds do not sound anything close to musical at all. Birds do vocalize so you can’t just escape or choose to ignore their voices! Cockatoos scream and parrots yell, especially in the morning as well as the evening. If you are looking for those birds that do not make much noise then you ought to buy a cockatiel or a parakeet as they are much less noisier and you can sleep in peacefully!
